The improvements being made involve the airport’s infrastructure, layout and design so that passengers and other airport users are served in the most efficient manner possible. However, it is important for the public to understand that international standards of quality will only be achieved when the new terminal is inaugurated in October 2019. The reason is that the current structure was inaugurated in the 1970s and has a capacity of about 1 million users per year. Currently, the terminal handles a little over 3.5 million passengers annually.

Floripa Airport has a team focused exclusively on the former terminal. Since the second half of 2017, even before officially taking over the operation of the airport, the company has been making repairs and expanding certain areas. . These are interim measures to correct certain flaws in the building, such as the paint work and electrical installations. All maintenance activities will continue until the former terminal is removed from service.
Below are other improvements planned for the former terminal:

  • Expansion of the security inspection area:
    X-ray capacity has been increased and new security inspection professionals hired, which has increased the passenger processing capacity by 30%. The expansion was completed by the end of 2017 to ensure greater efficiency in 2018.
  • Renovation and expansion of restrooms:
    All restrooms in the former terminal will be renovated and expanded between March and June 2018.
  • Administrative building:
    A building just outside of the terminal is being renovated to house Floripa Airport’s administrative offices. This will free up the current administrative area, located on the upper level level next to Banco do Brasil, for public use.
  • Layout:
    Changes to the airport’s layout and ambiance as well as new landscaping and visual recognition, with installation of a new sign with the name “Floripa Airport.” The idea is to give users a feeling of comfort and well-being.
  • Wi-fi:
    New, faster and free internet system.
  • Signage:
    New signage in the concourse and new paint to better indicate lanes for boarding and disembarking for passengers.
  • Air conditioning:
    Increase air-conditioning system capacity
  • Customer Service:
    Hiring of 12 airport agents to assist users and help the airlines with organization inside the terminal.
